Want to know how this information can affect your life?
There is a difference between having energy and knowing where to direct it.
There are moments when decisions come more naturally. You know what you want, act with more conviction and feel that you are leading your own life. At other times, a kind of paralysis appears: many possibilities, little clarity, difficulty moving forward even when everything seems to be in place.
Within the chakra system, this ability to act, decide and occupy your own space in the world has a specific center. It is Manipura, also known as the solar plexus chakra.
What is the solar plexus chakra (Manipura)?
The solar plexus chakra is the third of the seven chakras in the traditional energy system. Located in the solar plexus region, between the navel and the diaphragm, it is associated with identity, autonomy, self-esteem and the ability to transform energy into action.
In Sanskrit, Manipura means "city of jewels". The name refers to the inner wealth this chakra represents: self-confidence, clarity of purpose and the power to achieve.
Also called the power chakra or umbilical chakra, Manipura is the point where we stop merely feeling life and begin to act upon it. If the root chakra creates the foundation and the sacral chakra sets life in motion, the solar plexus gives direction to that movement.
It is associated with the color yellow, connected to clarity, vitality and mental energy, and with the Fire element, a symbol of transformation. Its symbol is a ten-petaled lotus flower with a downward-pointing triangle at the center, associated with Fire, transformation and the force of action.

How does the solar plexus chakra influence self-esteem, decisions and action?
This chakra is present in very concrete situations of everyday life. It appears when you need to make a difficult decision, in the way you react to criticism, and in the ease or difficulty you have in taking responsibility and moving forward.
When Manipura is balanced, there is a sense of inner direction. You act with more conviction, take up the space that belongs to you and transform intentions into real movement. Self-esteem is sustained not by the approval of others, but by a more stable relationship with your own abilities.
When it is out of balance, that direction is lost. Constant hesitation, excessive need for validation, difficulty trusting your own choices or, at the opposite extreme, rigid control that tries to compensate for underlying insecurity may appear.
In energetic traditions, the solar plexus chakra is associated with the digestive system, especially the stomach region, the pancreas and the abdominal nerve plexuses. It is no coincidence that emotions such as anger, anxiety and frustration are often called visceral. This association does not replace medical evaluation, but it helps observe how emotion, tension and the body can influence one another.
Blocked solar plexus chakra: what are the main signs?
When the solar plexus chakra, also called the power chakra, is blocked or imbalanced, the relationship with your own personal power becomes compromised. This can happen through lack, when energy does not flow, or through excess, when it becomes rigid and controlling.
Signs of a weakened or blocked solar plexus chakra:
- Low self-esteem or a negative view of yourself
- Difficulty making decisions or taking responsibility
- Feeling of lack of purpose or direction
- Fear of positioning yourself or occupying your own space
- Anxiety related to performance or external approval
- Recurring discomfort in the abdominal or digestive region
Signs of an overactive solar plexus chakra:
- Constant need to control people and situations
- Tendency toward authoritarian or excessively competitive behavior
- Constant need to prove your worth
- Defensive pride or difficulty recognizing mistakes
- Frequent irritability and difficulty dealing with frustration
- Difficulty connecting with others without rivalry
These signs are not diagnoses. They are an invitation to observe your current relationship with self-confidence, purpose and the power to act.
What is a balanced solar plexus chakra like?
When Manipura is in balance, the change appears in the relationship with your own choices. There is less hesitation. More direction.
Some aspects that energetic traditions associate with a balanced solar plexus chakra:
- Confidence in yourself and in your own decisions
- Clarity of purpose and sense of responsibility
- Ability to transform ideas into concrete actions
- Discipline and motivation to achieve goals
- Autonomy and sense of direction in life
- Balanced posture in relationships, without domination or submission
- More organization to deal with goals, practical choices and personal resources
Balance, here, does not mean the absence of doubt. It means having an inner foundation to act even when doubt appears.
How to balance the solar plexus chakra in everyday life?
The first step is usually to observe your relationship with your own power. How do you react when you need to decide? How do you behave when facing a challenge? Where does hesitation appear, and where does rigidity appear? This observation is already a real movement.
From there, some practices can support the process. Activities that develop discipline and body awareness, such as yoga, meditation or regular physical exercise, are often associated with strengthening this chakra.
But there is a difference between occasional practices and integrated work with the energy system. Understanding how the solar plexus chakra relates to the other centers, which stories it carries and how to work with it in depth requires going beyond the surface.
