Want to know how this information can affect your life?

In 2027, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto will all spend part of the year in retrograde motion. Venus is the exception: it will not turn retrograde at any point during the year.

In Astrology, retrogrades are traditionally associated with periods of review involving the themes symbolized by each planet. This does not mean that everything slows down, goes wrong or needs to be postponed. The idea is simpler: to notice where a second look, an adjustment or a change in strategy may be useful.

Some movements stand out in 2027. Mars begins the year retrograde between Virgo and Leo; Mercury goes retrograde three times, each time starting in a Water sign and returning to an Air sign; and in October, five planets will be retrograde at the same time.

Below, see when each planet is retrograde in 2027, the zodiac signs involved and what each period may represent in astrological interpretation.

2027 Retrograde Planets Calendar

Some retrogrades that affect 2027 actually begin in 2026 or end in 2028. For this reason, the calendar below includes every retrograde period that is active at some point during 2027.

All dates in this article are based on Brasília time (BRT, UTC−3). Because of time-zone differences, some planetary stations may fall on the previous or following calendar date in other locations.

What Are Retrograde Planets?

Retrograde planets are planets that, when observed from Earth, appear to temporarily reverse direction as they move through the zodiac. The planet does not actually begin orbiting backward: this is an apparent motion caused by the relative positions and different orbital speeds of the planets.

In Astrology, this apparent change of direction has taken on a symbolic meaning. The themes associated with a retrograde planet may be viewed from a perspective of review, reflection or a change in strategy.

Mercury, for example, is associated with communication, information and decision-making. Mars relates to action, desire and initiative. Jupiter is connected with expansion, confidence and worldview, while Saturn symbolizes boundaries, responsibilities and structure.

For slower-moving planets such as Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, retrograde periods last several months and occur regularly every year. For that reason, the simple fact that these planets are retrograde does not need to be treated as something exceptional. The interpretation tends to become more personally relevant when the transit forms close aspects to important points in the Birth Chart.

Which Planets Are Retrograde in 2027?

Seven planets go retrograde at some point in 2027: Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.

Mercury goes retrograde three times, while Uranus appears in two separate periods on the calendar because it begins the year still retrograde from a cycle that started in 2026 and begins another retrograde in September.

Jupiter also enters 2027 already retrograde in Leo and returns to direct motion in April. Mars, meanwhile, begins its retrograde in January, making the first quarter of the year particularly interesting for observing themes involving action, strategy and initiative.

The Sun and Moon never go retrograde. In Astrology, both are considered luminaries and do not undergo this type of apparent motion.

When Will the Most Planets Be Retrograde at the Same Time in 2027?

The highest concentration occurs between October 7 and 18, 2027, when five planets will be retrograde at the same time: Mercury, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.

This does not mean that October will necessarily be the most difficult month of the year. The outer planets remain retrograde for several months and these cycles are a regular part of their movement. Having five planets retrograde at once is, first of all, a feature of the calendar.

For an individual interpretation, it makes more sense to look at which of these planets actually activate relevant points in your Birth Chart than to assign a general effect to the number of retrogrades in the sky.

Is There a Period With No Retrograde Planets in 2027?

Yes. Between April 13 and May 7, 2027, none of the planets included in this calendar will be retrograde.

Jupiter returns to direct motion on the evening of April 12 in Brasília time, and Pluto begins its retrograde on May 8.

This does not automatically make these weeks “better” for launches, decisions or new projects. The absence of retrogrades is simply one characteristic of the sky during this period; choosing an astrological timing involves many other factors.

Does Venus Go Retrograde in 2027?

No. Venus does not go retrograde in 2027.

This simply means there will be no Venus retrograde period during the year. Love, relationships, self-worth, pleasure, money and personal values remain present through other transits and, most importantly, through the way those movements interact with each individual Birth Chart.

A year without Venus retrograde should not automatically be interpreted as an easier year for relationships either. Retrograde motion is only one of many conditions considered in astrological interpretation.

Mercury Retrograde in 2027

Mercury goes retrograde three times in 2027:

All three cycles share one feature: Mercury begins its retrograde in a Water sign and moves back into an Air sign.

Symbolically, this transition may bring two different ways of processing a situation into dialogue. Water is associated with subjective experience, perception and the emotional dimension, while Air relates to mental processing, communication and the exchange of ideas.

For this reason, all three cycles may raise a similar question in different ways: how can you turn what you feel or perceive into something that can be understood, discussed and reconsidered?

The first period, between Pisces and Aquarius, may encourage a perception to be revisited as new ideas enter the conversation. The second, between Cancer and Gemini, brings memory and emotion closer to the need to put into words what needs to be said. The third, between Scorpio and Libra, may bring trust, agreements and different versions of the same situation into perspective.

This does not mean that miscommunication, delays or problems will necessarily increase during these periods. At Astrolink, we prefer to approach Mercury retrograde as a symbolic opportunity for review, rather than as a prediction of chaos.

Mars Retrograde in 2027

Mars is retrograde from January 10 to April 1, 2027. The retrograde begins in Virgo and ends in Leo.

Because Mars does not go retrograde every year, this is one of the more distinctive movements on the 2027 calendar. In Astrology, Mars is associated with initiative, desire, the ability to act, competitiveness and the way we respond to obstacles.

In Virgo, this energy tends to express itself through execution, improvement and the attempt to make something work better. The retrograde may be a useful time to notice whether your effort is actually solving the problem or whether trying to correct every detail is draining energy without improving the result.

As Mars moves back into Leo, the question takes on a different tone. Action becomes more closely connected with personal expression, creativity, pride and the desire for recognition. An initiative may need to be reconsidered not only in terms of how it is being carried out, but also in terms of the motivation behind it.

Mars retrograde does not mean a lack of energy or a need to put projects on hold. A more useful question may be: is this the best way to use my energy to get where I want to go?

Jupiter Retrograde in 2027

Jupiter begins 2027 retrograde in Leo, continuing a movement that started on December 12, 2026, and returns to direct motion on April 12, 2027, in Brasília time.

Jupiter is associated with expansion, confidence, opportunities, knowledge and the way we develop a broader vision of life.

In Leo, these themes meet personal expression, creativity, visibility and recognition. The retrograde may offer an opportunity to look again at what is growing and ask whether expansion and visibility are serving the same purpose.

Growth does not always mean taking up more space. In some cases, it may mean deepening a skill, resizing an expectation or realizing that an opportunity no longer aligns with what you want to build.

The end of the retrograde in April does not guarantee an automatic restart and does not need to be treated as a signal to take action. It simply marks the change in Jupiter's apparent motion; individual choices still depend on each person's circumstances.

Saturn Retrograde in 2027

Saturn is retrograde from August 9 to December 23, 2027, entirely in Aries.

In Astrology, Saturn is associated with structure, responsibility, time, boundaries, commitment and sustainability. Aries, on the other hand, tends to move through initiative and the desire to open new paths.

This combination places an interesting question at the heart of the retrograde: what is required to sustain what you had the courage to begin?

Projects, responsibilities or decisions involving autonomy may be reconsidered through a more concrete lens. A desire may still make sense and yet require a different structure. A boundary may prove necessary not to block a path, but to make it viable.

Saturn retrograde in Aries may be especially useful as a symbol for reconsidering the difference between independence and acting without taking consequences into account.

Uranus Retrograde in 2027

Uranus begins 2027 retrograde in Gemini, continuing the movement that started on September 10, 2026. It returns to direct motion on February 8, 2027.

It then begins another retrograde on September 15, 2027, also in Gemini, and remains retrograde until February 12, 2028.

Uranus is associated with innovation, breaking patterns, freedom and changes that alter established ways of functioning. In Gemini, these themes connect with language, ideas, learning, the circulation of information and communication technologies.

Because Uranus is a slow-moving planet and spends several months retrograde every year, there is no need to interpret each retrograde as a sign that sudden events are about to happen.

From a collective perspective, the transit may accompany a broader period of questioning around how we produce, distribute and decide which information to trust. In an individual Birth Chart, its relevance increases when Uranus passes close to or forms important aspects with natal planets and points.

Neptune Retrograde in 2027

Neptune is retrograde from July 9 to December 15, 2027, entirely in Aries.

Neptune is associated with imagination, inspiration, sensitivity, idealization and what cannot always be clearly defined. In Aries, these themes meet a sign connected with initiative, desire and individual assertion.

This combination may offer a useful symbol for reconsidering what is motivating an action. A desire may come from genuine inspiration, but it can also emerge from an idealized image of who we want to be or what we expect to achieve.

The retrograde does not need to be interpreted as a loss of clarity or an increase in confusion. A more careful reading is to notice where dreams and action need to work together more effectively.

As with the other slow-moving planets, Neptune retrograde tends to become more personally significant when it forms close aspects with important points in the Birth Chart.

Pluto Retrograde in 2027

Pluto is retrograde from May 8 to October 18, 2027, in Aquarius.

Pluto is associated with deep processes of transformation, power, control and reorganization. In Aquarius, these themes connect with groups, networks, technology, collective structures and the relationship between the individual and society.

Because Pluto moves very slowly, its retrograde does not need to be interpreted as a separate period in which major transformations will necessarily happen. Pluto spends a significant portion of every year retrograde, and its cycles unfold over long stretches of time.

In 2027, its retrograde in Aquarius may provide a backdrop for reflecting on who sets the rules within the groups we belong to, how power circulates through networks and how much autonomy we preserve within collective structures.

On a personal level, the interpretation becomes more specific when Pluto closely activates natal planets, angles or other relevant points in the Birth Chart.

How Can the 2027 Retrograde Planets Show Up in Your Birth Chart?

The calendar shows the collective movement of the planets, but a retrograde does not mean the same thing for everyone.

A useful first step is to look at which astrological house the retrograde planet is transiting. That house points to the area of life connected with the movement: work, relationships, money, family, studies, career, friendships or other themes.

It is also important to look at the aspects formed with natal planets and points. A slow-moving planet may remain retrograde for months and go almost unnoticed by one person, while being highly relevant to someone else because it closely activates their Sun, Moon, Rising Sign, Midheaven or another important point during that period.

For this reason, the number of retrograde planets in the sky says less about your individual experience than the relationship between those transits and your Birth Chart.

The same applies when different movements overlap. A retrograde that occurs near a New Moon, Full Moon or one of the 2027 eclipses does not automatically need to be considered more intense. What matters is understanding how these factors relate to one another and to each person's chart.

How to Work With Retrograde Periods Throughout 2027

Retrograde planets do not need to become a calendar of restrictions.

You do not need to avoid signing contracts because Mercury is retrograde, abandon an initiative during Mars retrograde or wait until Saturn turns direct before taking on a responsibility.

Retrograde motion can be more useful as a point of observation. With Mercury, pay attention to the quality of information and conversations. With Mars, look at the relationship between effort, strategy and desire. With Jupiter, consider the meaning behind the growth you are pursuing. With Saturn, examine the structures and commitments supporting a choice.

With Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, the interpretation requires even more perspective. Because these planets remain retrograde for long periods every year, it makes little sense to reorganize your routine simply because of their apparent motion. Their relevance lies mainly in the broader processes they symbolize and in the way those transits interact with the Birth Chart.

Retrograde does not mean problem, delay or punishment. It is one of many conditions Astrology uses to observe planetary movement and reflect on different stages of a cycle.
